The City of Greenville is turning 200 years old!

On Dec. 28, 1822, the Alabama Legislature signed an act creating Greenville, Alabama, the county-seat of Butler County. The city will host a ‘birthday party’ Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. downtown Greenville.

The event will include several food vendors, outdoor activities for children, and historic exhibits by various civic clubs and local organizations. Kyle Haines and David Norrell of the popular “Kyle & Dave Morning Show” will broadcast live from the event. Greenville native and singer-songwriter Rock Killough will also be on hand to sign copies of his new book Front Porch Stories. Killough will be at the library's table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will also coincide with the Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society’s “Tour of Homes.” The six houses selected for the Tour are located in the heart of Greenville. The tour consists of five routes designed for ease of walking or driving, and also includes historic locations such as Greenville City Hall, the Ritz Theatre, and Pioneer Cemetery. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on the day of the Tour at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center at 212 Fort Dale Road in Greenville. Brochures, maps, arm bands and water will be available at registration.
